Who's lying?

A boy and a girl are talking.

"I am a boy" - said the child with black hair.

"I am a girl" - said the child with white hair.

At least one of them lied. Who is the boy and who is the girl?

Ans:

Both of them are lying! If any one of them is lying, both of them would be either boy of girl which is not as the condition stated at the beginning.

Tree and Rope

A rope swing hangs vertically down so that the end is 12 inches above the ground, and 48 inches away from the tree.

If the swing is pulled across so that it touches the tree, it is 20 inches from the ground.

How long is the rope?

Ans:

148 inches.
?

We can use Pythagoras' theorem if we draw an imaginary line across to create a right-angled triangle.

The hypotenuse is equal to the rope's length R. The bottom of the triangle is 48 inches. The vertical side is R - 8 (the difference between 20 inches and 12 inches).

Pythagoras' theorem tells us that:

   a2 + b2 = c2

Where c is the hypotenuse.

This gives us:

          482 + (R - 8)2 = R2

   2304 + (R - 8)(R - 8) = R2

    2304 + R2 - 16R + 64 = R2

         2304 - 16R + 64 = 0

                     16R = 2368

                       R = 148

Where's The £1?

Three people check into a hotel.

They pay £30 to the manager and go to their room.

The manager suddenly remembers that the room rate is £25 and gives £5 to the bellboy to return to the people.

On the way to the room the bellboy reasons that £5 would be difficult to share among three people so he pockets £2 and gives £1 to each person.

Now each person paid £10 and got back £1.

So they paid £9 each, totalling £27. The bellboy has £2, totalling £29.

Where is the missing £1?

Ans:

We have to be careful what we are adding together.

Originally, they paid £30, they each received back £1, they now have only paid £27.
Of this £27, £25 went to the manager for the room and £2 went to the bellboy.

Barber Shop

There is a small town on the East Coast that has 2 barbershops each with a single barber, and on opposite sides of town. The barbershop in the good part of town is immaculate. The floors and windows are washed and the air is fresh. The barber is very friendly, always smiling, he has shined shoes, a nice head of hair, and a clean dress shirt. The barbershop in the bad part of town is a mess. The entire barbershop is covered with a layer of dirt, and the air smells of trash. The barber always has a frown on his face. His skin is oily, his hair is ragged, and there are always stains visible on his shirt.

A man comes into town and hears of both barbershops and the man decides to go to the dirty barbershop in the bad part of town. Why does he do this?

Ans:

The clean-cut barber must have his hair cut by the dirty barber and the dirty barber by the clean-cut barber. So it's obvious that the dirty barber gives a better haircut.

Chinese name.

How long is a Chinese name.

Ans:
Maybe you tried counting the letters in the riddle and guessing random numbers. The secret? It’s not a question but a statement. So, it doesn't needs an answer. I'm trying to teach you some Chinese names guys!

Two fathers and two sons walk into a candy store...

Two fathers and two sons walk into a candy store. They each buy something for $0.50 but they only spent $1.50. How is that possible?

Ans: One grandfather, one father and one son makes two fathers and two sons.

Whenever this awesome riddle is asked to people, they always get caught up with the money. It doesn’t make sense at first because you jump to the conclusion that there are four people there so clearly you need to spend $2.00 if everyone did indeed buy something for $0.50. The trick comes in when you realize that only three people entered the store, what changed is the relationship, or say relationships, each of them holds.
